Blog Post #21 - My day out in the city with my friend

Hey guys! I was just in the big city of Chicago earlier today with my friend Emilia! We were around a f*ck ton of hipsters in this coffee shop and it was making me mad... I got some tea because I don't like coffee...

Then we went to a clothing store... and one of my friends who I haven't seen in a while was there!!! My friend Evan, they make cool electronic music check them out on Spotify. Their artist name is Oipee, they rule.

Anyway, Emilia and I just went and checked out some record stores and a game store and also a book store (I don't read but Emilia does so I just went in there because it was cold outside.)  Hanging out with my friend Emilia is really cool because she shows me some pretty cool stuffs because she goes to Chicago more than I do.

I also tried to see if my friend Mariel was free but sadly she was at school... But it's ok, soon I'll hang out with her because she's also cool...

Also, when I got ice cream I did a cool trick on my fingerboard, nosegrind nollie heel out... Didn't know I could nollie heel on a FB? Yeah, I can.

Anyway... I just love hanging out with my friends, and I love to explore and have fun. Seeing familiar faces in places I don't expect is always a treat, and enjoying the day is something I strive to achieve.

Peace, dudes!

Blog Post #19 - In class right now

Hey guys. I'm in class right now and I thought I'd just give a quick update on what I'm doing right now.

Soooo... I'm in class right now learning lol, it's boring. Something else less boring is video games, I'm currently playing Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. (Not currently current because I'm in class, I wish I was playing Zelda right now!) I just got the Master Sword in the game, pretty cool.

Before I went to class I went to the gym with my friend Thomas and I maxxed out my bench for the first time! 135! I'm so proud of myself for being able to do that, but I'll wait until next month to try and max out again, I wouldn't want to hurt myself. And then after we got some food... yum! Then I went home for a bit, then I skated, with Thomas! And.... an old friend Phil! It's rare that Phil shows up so I hung out with him, I tried to film him bust a fat front 180 to flat but unfortunately the ground is a little wet because it rained so he slipped out twice....

Anyway, I should probably get back to class, or I mean... Paying attention in class, haha. Alright later d00ds.

Blog Post #18 - Cave Story review!

3/5

Cave Story! It's a game that's synonymous with indie gaming, everyone knows it. And I mean, there is a reason why it's received such critical acclaim. There is a lot of charm that comes in the package of this small Japanese freeware game, with cutesy captivating characters, and beautiful chiptune music that accompanies you throughout exploring the underground areas of the floating island.

A floating island? Yes! The game begins with a robot named Quote, waking up in the middle of some random cave. As you progress through the game's introduction, you learn what you are fighting for, as you meet the Mimiga, and then more characters! Such as Kazuma, or Sue… I'd rather not say anything else, as that ruins the fun of stories!

Anyway, aside from the story, the gameplay… It's alright. I really did want to enjoy playing this game, however there are a multitude of things that just dampened my enjoyment of playing the game little by little, chipping away at my attitude towards thinking if I actually liked playing the game. A major complaint echoed throughout other reviews I've read is just how floaty the game is! Along with being incredibly slippery, the platforming in Cave Story is sloppy, and you often miss most jumps because of it. As well, another thing is just how steep the spikes in difficulty are! While traversing through the game, it's honestly simple, and easy. However, when encountering a boss fight, I've seen people just drop the game entirely due to just how difficult fights are. They're frustrating, tedious, and just downright annoying, even with the aid of more powerful weapons you get as you progress and explore.

There are things however, I did thoroughly enjoy throughout my run! Starting with the game's aesthetic. The areas in Cave Story are a treat to explore, discovering tiny secrets and even rewarding the player by thinking out of the box with little bits of dialogue, an item, or even a new weapon! There's so much you can find in Cave Story that you can't experience in just one run alone, and with there being multiple endings, it leaves you wanting to see what outcomes can arise with just how you play, and what decisions you make. Another thing I liked about Cave Story were the characters and dialogue, the story, while linear, does carry itself quite well!

In the end, a common sentiment shared throughout other reviewers is just how much they wanted to like Cave Story, but in the end, just didn't enjoy it as much as they hoped. From repetitive gameplay, slippery movement, and sudden spikes in difficulty that could lead one to quit playing entirely, there are a lot of problems one can go through while playing Cave Story. I thought the game was alright, I personally went for the game's "true ending" for the sole purpose of getting a full grasp of the game's story, but would I replay the game to try and achieve the other endings? Probably not…

Blog Post #17 - Boring!

So a fingerboard shop had its grand opening in Chicago today. F-ing sweet.

So I went over there with my friends and all that, and guess what... THE LINE WAS TOO LONG!!! And my friend who drove us there had to be somewhere at like 3. I waited in line, till the last second. And I was right at the door... and I didn't get in.

Whatever. I'll just go another time, it's honestly not that big of a deal... I JUST WISH I DIDN'T WASTE MY FREAKING TIME!!!! Sigh...

I did skateboard later and have chats with all my friends, I really like my friends they're all cool people who do cool things.

Blog Post #16 - My dream last night

It started off with me wanting a haircut. I go to get a haircut and I show like the picture I want I forget what, and then it just fades to white and then comes back, I go to look in the mirror and my hair is like... Orange and curly??? I was super fucking pissed off and grabbed an electric razor and shaved all of my hair off and left the store without paying... and that's where the dream ended.

I don't really know what this means in the grand scheme of things.

Blog Post #15 - My review of TLoZ: Wind Waker

 4.5/5

It's rare that a game fully captivates my attention for an entire playthrough without feeling like a chore, and Wind Waker did just that! Every single second playing this game was enjoyable, something of which is strongly carried by the fun gameplay and cel shaded graphics.

Everything in this game, down to the sidequests, is an overall good time. From capturing photos to deep sea treasure hunting, this game keeps you exploring, wanting you to see what the developers crammed into this game.

As well, the story doesn't fall in line with the conventional Zelda timeline that we all know of, instead, deviating into its own, thusly creating entirely new basis on what you're trying to achieve, ending with the inevitable triforce and defeating of Ganondorf.

The story of Wind Waker is comedic, tense, and fascinating. One second, you're just a boy who earns his stripes wearing the green heros tunic, the next you're riding a boat that talks to you and guides you through the game... It's simple and easy to understand, however it's a pleasant experience to progress and see how it unfolds.

I loved playing this game. There's nothing much more to say, but I will note that the reason this game isn't 5 stars... Is that I found that constantly using what the games named after "the Wind Waker" actually got a little annoying, especially during the Wind and Earth temples. No game can be perfect, but this one is pretty high up there.
